A Gift of Love

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

It is a month since Haiti suffered such total devastation with the earthquake that destroyed their country. But it did not destroy their spirit. I remember when we first found out about the earthquake. It made me cry. My heart broke for the people of Haiti and for their loss of their loved ones and homes. Their lives would never be the same.

But I am reminded that the Chinese symbol for crisis is also opportunity. It is an opportunity for us to practice living abundantly even in the face of our own feelings of limitations and lack. It is an opportunity for the Haitian community to feel the abundance of love, support and money from the world. Opportunity abounds here. But what does that mean? Haiti has to be totally rebuilt from the ground up. It is an opportunity for all of us to give to the Haitian community a new sense of purpose, of starting anew. The biggest thing it takes to make that happen is money.

I know money is a tough issue to talk about today, given so many people out of work, given our own financial limitations. But I would suggest to you that we can think outside our notions of lack and limitation. It isn’t about how much money you donate, it is about the belief that you can. It is about the belief that we all can make a difference. It is an act of faith, a belief in the abundance of the universe that if you give, it will be returned to you tenfold. Even if you are out of work or your circumstances and conditions in your life make you feel like you don’t have much, try donating one dollar. For someone with a little bit of money, it will be a very generous gesture on your part which has real implications for the vibration you live in around money.

When I was younger, my parents didn’t talk to me about charitable giving. They always said that I didn’t make enough money to donate anyway. In fact, I didn’t learn that my parents engaged in charitable giving until I was an adult. When I first started to donate, it made me feel a part of something bigger than myself. I began to see that there is enough money.

Everyone can do something. Give up Starbucks for a week or bring your own lunch to work and donate the money you would have spent. This is a teachable moment for our children on giving. See if your company has a program of giving and suggest the charity or need that you are passionate about.

Here is a site that lists where you can donate and rates the organizations.
http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=content.view&cpid=1004

We all can do something. We don’t have to feel or be helpless, crying while we watch our televisions. There is action we can all take. I am posting my favorite Jewel song which reminds us that, “we are God’s hands.”

All is Well

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

“If I could tell the world just one thing, it would be, we’re all OK.”
Jewel

I’ve always loved the song Hands by Jewel. It is a beautiful song and to me, seems more timely than ever.  So many of us are worried about what is going to happen to us – will we lose our jobs, can we pay our bills, what happens if I get sick?  These things can happen, and they may not, so you end up worrying about things that never take place.

I am still in the hospital and I am scheduled to go home instead of a physical therapy rehab.  I have my moments when I worry, “I don’t feel ready, what is going to happen to me?”  But I can’t keep my focus there.

We all know that whatever you pay attention to expands.  So you have to keep your focus on what you want.  I have to keep my focus on what I want – being able to walk out of the hospital and be able to take care of myself.

So for all of us – I am putting a YouTube version of Jewel singing, Hands to remind us:

“Not to worry ’cause worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these”
I won’t be made useless
I won’t be idle with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear”

I would like to hear your comments and experiences with worry and fear and how you deal with it.

Remember, “We are never broken.”

The Reality of Abundance

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

I hadn’t been feeling well during the month of December 2008 and I kept telling my friends I feel like I had been run over by a Mac truck.  I woke up on Jan. 2nd and was coughing so hard I broke three ribs, so I went to the emergency room. I was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and asthma.  It got so bad, I almost died.  I ended up on a ventilator and had to have a tracheostomy. I laid unconscious for six weeks in ICU.

I am happy to report that I am doing better now.  I am off the ventilator but still in the hospital.  But it got me thinking about abundance and how fortunate I truly am. I have been so blessed by the abundance of prayers and support that I have received from both my friends in my daily life and from my online friends.  When I fell ill, my online friends circulated the news and started an international prayer room.  I was blessed to have someone put my name in the Wailing Wall.

When I was wakened from my unconscious state and saw all that was done in my name, as sick as I was, I knew I was rich beyond measure.  I have one friend that I met online who lives in Canada and sent me a card every week. It wasn’t just the cards, flowers and calls. They were and continue to be wonderful.  But it was the realization that I have an abundance of love in my life.  I wouldn’t trade that for all the riches in the world.  Prosperity and abundance are not just about money and what we possess…it is about love and friendship.

In this time in our lives, it is so easy to focus on what is happening in the world, our 401K’s….and don’t get me wrong, they are important.  But remember to look at the blessings you have in your life also and be grateful for them.

I’ve been given many gifts throughout this ordeal.  I have been given a second chance at life.  And I have been shown how rich my life truly is. So many people never find this out until it’s too late.

To all my friends and to those I will never know or meet who prayed for me or sent well wishes, my most profound thank you for being a gift in my life.  I love you all.   I also want to say a special thank you to Dr. Brij Sharma and Dr. Kwiatek for saving my life.  A special thank you to Linda Navarro, who helped me enormously during this time.  And also to the team of nurses, speech pathologists, social workers, respiratory, physical and occupational therapists and personal care aides at North Shore University Hospital at Glen Cove. They went above and beyond their jobs and offered me support and encouragement that I will never forget.  They are all angels in my book.

If you would like to share your experience of love and abundance, it would be an honor to include it here.  We can all use that kind of good news!

To Panic or Not To Panic….

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Last week we saw record low’s in the stock market. Panic has set in. I don’t know anyone who is feeling secure right now. I have been working on my feeligs of financial instability. I have made a decision not to focus on what I am seeing on the television. It is all bad news. And we all know that what we focus on expands. So, if all we do is pay attention to bad news and see collapse and despair everywhere, we will get more of that. What we are seeing is all about scarcity, that there are limited resources. That there is only one pie and that we all have to fight for our little piece of it. I believed that for many years.

When you come from a prosperity consciousness, there is more than one pie. There is unlimited pie. Bob Proctor always says that “when you are dealing with the infinite, you can never take more than your share.” I believe that. In our personal lives, the results that we get are directly correlated to what we had been thinking about up till then. Our thoughts create our feelings which in turn move us into action and create our results. The good news is that we can change our thinking anytime we want to.

The truth of the matter is that we are responsible for our financial futures. I know for myself that I have in the past given that responsibilty away. I was at effect of the job market, what my boss would pay me or who I gave power to control my IRA to. No more. Suze Orman was right! We have to take our financial lives in our own hands. We can do it. No one is going to care more about what happens to you than you. And the truth is, that even in this horrible economy, people will prosper. Why….because they don’t see the glass as half empty, they see opporunities.

So…think about it. You can go on drifting on the sea until you get beached by the economy or you can fight against the tide and look for opportunites that you never saw before.

What September 11th Has Taught Me

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Today is September 11th. I was sitting in my doctors office, watching the reading of the names at Ground Zero. Everyone was sitting there crying. No one spoke. The woman sitting next to me, handed me a tissue in a shared moment of sadness.

But the lessons of September 11th go beyond loss and pain. I was privileged to work as a grief counselor at the Yankee Stadium Memorial Service in NYC. It was a time the city came together, our sadness and pain the back drop for one of our finest hours as a community of people.

September 11th taught me that I need to embrace life, to live it abundantly! None of us is promised a tomorrow. Each day is precious. No matter what the stock market is, the size of our bank accounts, whether we are in the jobs we want, or what we look like, we are here today. And that means we have the ability to change the quality of our lives.

In the times of loss and sadness, I have found my gratitude. I remember to say thank you. I appreciate the small gestures, the offer of a tissue in a time of grief. When I can stay in that gratitude, I live with a prosperity consciousness. I am blessed beyond good fortune to have people who care about me and that my needs are taken care of.

From this day forward may you live in that prosperity consciousness! There is more than enough. We are blessed at all times, no matter what our present circumstances.

And may God bless the families who have lost their loved ones.

Aligning With Your Veritable Fortune – Abraham / Esther & Jerry Hicks

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Do you have trouble thinking abundantly? Is prosperity alluding you? You can’t change what you don’t acknowledge. A belief is just a thought you keep thinking, says Abraham.

I think that is where most people get stuck. How do I speak of prosperity and abundance if I am nowhere near that state?

Abraham cautions us not to use sarcasm or humor but to feel the abundance that we want.

You cannot keep telling the same story without living the same reality. You have to tell and feel the story you want to live. Abraham says that you have to pretend that it’s already done.

Look and speak in the direction of where you want to be. Don’t look back from where you come from.

Abundance is All Around

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Abundance is here for all of us, we just have to know and believe that. Do you believe that?

We are all looking for time and money freedom. And it seems today, we have precious little of both. But what if we could switch the way we think about abundance and prosperity?

Bob Proctor says there is an infinite source of supply. When you are dealing with infinite, you can never take more than your share.

How do we begin to make that switch? Focus on what you want in life, not what your current cirucumstances look like. It’s very easy to look at our current circumstances and fall into despair. So many people loosing their homes, their jobs. Don’t speak of poverty or debt, focus on solutions to make money. When you first look at this, you may think that I am splitting hairs but I am not. This alluded me for the longest time.

The law of attraction says that energy flows where attention goes, so if you focus on something, you will get more of that. So why focus on debt and always being broke? Focus on what you really want and make a clear picture of that in your mind.

So take some time today to think about what you really want. Write it down, say it to yourself. Carry that card with you and look at it often.

See what happens!
